Director of Quality Services (Certification, Compliance, Inspection)
Sequence has been exclusively retained and is currently seeking a Director of Quality Services (QS) for The APA Engineered Wood Association (). This crucial Director position is responsible for keeping the Association at the forefront of developments affecting the compliance, end-use performance, and recognition of APA certified products in the global marketplace.
This is currently the niche industry's highest-profile position of its kind and one of the most unique Quality Services Management and Certification positions available in the marketplace.
The Engineered Wood Associationis a nonprofit trade association that works with its members to create structural wood products of exceptional strength, versatility, and reliability combining the research efforts of scientists and engineers at APAs research center with the knowledge gained from decades of fieldwork, and cooperation with member manufacturers. APA members are comprised of well-known industry leaders, whose mills produce the majority of the structural wood panel products manufactured in North America, plus a host of engineered wood products that include glued laminated timber (glulam), cross-laminated timber (CLT), wood I-joists and structural composite lumber.
Reporting directly to the organizations President, and a key member of APAs executive management team, the role is charged with Managing the Associations internationally accredited certification and inspections programs to North American and international referenced product standards.
While this is a specialized industry and domain knowledge base is important, the organization has had excellent success bringing in talent that was able to learn their niche business. That in mind, any candidate with the applicable skills and abilities will be considered for the role with long-term established management and line staff capable of supporting that industry transition.
The position is responsible for formulating objectives, programs, policies, budgets, and procedures relating to certification, inspection products standards, regulatory issues, quality assurance, safety, and other related activities. Specifically, the position provides leadership to ensure Association adherence to International Standards Organization (ISO) based product quality management systems for accreditation (ISO-17065), inspection (ISO-17020), and/or other related product quality management schemes (ISO-19067). This currently includes Association accreditation, auditing, and recognition by notified bodies in the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the European Union.
A key consideration of the post is that it develops operations to certification schemes that establish procedures for implementing preventative, corrective action for nonconformities while operating within a high degree of impartiality.
Reporting responsibilities include overseeing the management of managers, professional-quality analysts, administrative personnel, and American Society of Quality certified auditors remotely located in the United States, Canada, Chile, and Brazil.
The role has significant international and liaison responsibilities with internal personnel across the organization as well as external stakeholders. It also requires substantial regulatory (federal and state/provincial) interactions and actively conducting cooperative projects to evaluate members products and their performance in end-use markets. Key is supporting certification programs by creating, organizing, and maintaining comprehensive documentation for department business processes, tools, and applications. With a focus on aligning certification business processes with industry best practices (Lean, six sigma, and others).
Beyond proven experienced proven quality services, standards, certifications, and internal/external audit process experience, the ideal individual would be capable of oversight of divisional operations and oversight budgets.
The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical field from a four-year college or university; three to five years related experience in manufacturing and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally, a minimum of two years professional experience managing projects and operations with experience in industry or regulatory standards development or regulatory advocacy is preferred but not mandatory
